He said: “Fengxian is currently implementing the central government’s call to ‘actively promote the launch economy’ and ‘vigorously stimulate consumption,’ while fully supporting Shanghai’s development as an international consumption center. He emphasized: “As the only nationally recognized ‘Capital of China’s Cosmetics Industry,’ Oriental Beauty Valley has attracted a group of leading domestic and international enterprises, including CHANDO, and established a complete beauty and health industry chain. In his address, Zheng Chunying, Chairman and President of CHANDO Group, explained the original vision and core logic behind the development of the Future Beauty City: “The essence of an industrial tourism destination lies in transforming industrial resources into cultural and tourism experiences, and turning production lines into immersive experience spaces and communication platforms. This is not simply about creating a corporate exhibition hall or a tourist attraction. It is about transforming industrial capabilities into cultural influence, making brand value tangible, cultural narratives experiential, and consumer conversion more direct. Ultimately, it enables the public to experience the exceptional quality of Chinese manufacturing and helps brands earn deeper consumer trust.”

Harnessing the Launch Economy to Create New Drivers of Consumption Growth

As a benchmark project connecting Fengxian District with Shanghai’s “launch economy” strategy, the “Launch Economy · Setting Sail for Beauty” — Oriental Beauty Valley · CHANDO Future Beauty City Launch Ceremony centered on four major debuts: the launch of the Future Beauty City, the opening of the Cosmetics Science and Art Exhibition Hall, the opening of the factory store, and the launch of new products. Together, these initiatives comprehensively showcased CHANDO Group’s capabilities in intelligent manufacturing, scientific research and innovation, green development and consumer experience.

The Future Beauty City integrates cosmetics science education, product showcases, intelligent manufacturing and immediate consumption, creating a seamless connection from the “source of manufacturing” to the “consumer endpoint.” It has been selected as one of the “Top 10 Landmark Culture and Tourism Projects in Shanghai for 2025.” Supporting the project is CHANDO Group’s manufacturing base, which covers a total area of 161 mu and has a gross floor area of 127,000 square meters. The base houses four production categories — skincare, color cosmetics, hair and body care, and facial masks — with a total of 68 production lines and an annual production capacity exceeding 400 million units. By integrating intelligent manufacturing with culture and tourism, CHANDO has created an open, integrated and collaborative “beauty technology platform.”

Strengthening the Foundation for Sustainable Development Through Digitalization and Intelligent Manufacturing

As a “2024 Shanghai Advanced-Level Smart Factory,” the site demonstrates the advanced intelligent and green manufacturing capabilities of “Made in Shanghai” through technologies including the digital twin system at its “lights-out logistics” intelligent sorting center and fully automated production lines in its smart workshops. Serving as CHANDO Group’s national logistics hub, the intelligent sorting center leverages the Internet of Things and 3D modeling technologies to provide end-to-end visualization, enabling precise inventory management and real-time alerts for operational anomalies. Products are distributed from the center to five regional warehouses nationwide, before being delivered to more than 60,000 retail stores across China, ensuring efficient operation of the Group’s warehousing and distribution system.

Inside the smart workshops, two fully automated production lines operate efficiently with high precision and minimal human intervention: a skincare lotion line with an annual capacity of 7 million bottles and a lipstick line with an annual capacity of 2 million units. Together, they provide a clear demonstration of the advanced level of intelligent manufacturing in China’s beauty industry.

The project has fully incorporated ESG principles throughout its construction and operation, establishing a green system spanning clean energy and resource circulation while introducing a new dimension of sustainable development into industrial tourism. Solar photovoltaic systems are installed across the rooftops of the entire manufacturing base, generating 3.5 million kWh of electricity annually and meeting approximately 80% of the site’s electricity demand. Together with measures including 100% secondary reuse of wastewater, reusable transit packaging to reduce resource consumption, and the development of green packaging, the site has advanced clean production and zero-discharge practices, providing a tangible demonstration of CHANDO Group’s sustainability strategy.

Within the integrated space combining the brand exhibition hall, sustainability exhibition hall, factory store and CHANDO CAFE, guests were able to experience a complete “source-to-consumer” journey. As CHANDO Group’s only direct-sales platform in China bringing together all of its brands under one roof, the factory store innovatively connects intelligent manufacturing scenarios with consumer experiences. Visitors can observe production inside the smart workshops and immediately purchase innovative products at the factory store. Through its uniqueness, direct-from-source experience and exclusive price advantages, this model converts the emotional engagement generated during the visit into consumer action, creating a closed-loop experience of “see it, buy it, take it home.”

At a dedicated media salon for new product launches held during the event, three new additions to CHANDO’s Little Purple Bottle series became a major focus, attracting in-depth participation from more than 70 media outlets. Through professional presentations and hands-on product experiences, media guests spoke highly of the anti-wrinkle and repair benefits demonstrated by three signature products: CHANDO Little Purple Stick Eye Essence, Little Purple Bottle Cream 2.0 and Little Purple Bottle Mask. The lively exchange represented not only a successful product debut, but also a collaborative exploration of beauty technology, highlighting the tremendous potential of technologies independently developed in China.

Dr. Zou Yue, Vice President of R&D and Chief Scientist at CHANDO Group, shared the latest research findings jointly developed by CHANDO and the Chinese Academy of Sciences under the theme “Research Progress on the Earlier Onset of Facial Aging Among Contemporary Chinese Women and Exploration of Systematic Solutions.” He explained that, based on an analysis of more than 320,000 facial images of Chinese women, the research found that the “critical turning point” of skin aging among Chinese women has shifted approximately two years earlier, with key signs of aging entering an accelerated phase between the ages of 24 and 33. The study also identified “fatigue-related aging” as a key factor accelerating the aging process. In response, CHANDO developed its proprietary core ingredient HiMurchaSin®, derived from the extreme environment of the Himalayas, to precisely enhance cellular energy and activate skin renewal. Building on this ingredient, CHANDO developed the Little Purple Bottle series as an “anti-fatigue aging” solution tailored to the skincare needs of Chinese women.

Ye Zhongyi, Director of the CHANDO Brand Department, focused on three new products from the Little Purple Bottle series and shared the latest applications of CHANDO’s “anti-fatigue aging” research. She said: “CHANDO’s research has found that the turning point in skin aging among Chinese women is occurring earlier, while consumer demand for highly effective anti-aging and comprehensive wrinkle-reduction solutions continues to grow. At the same time, aging around the eyes can occur five to six years faster than facial aging. Leveraging cutting-edge polar biotechnology, CHANDO has pioneered an anti-fatigue aging eye serum — the CHANDO Little Purple Stick Day & Night Eye Essence — based on a time-specific care concept of ‘brightening and revitalizing by day, repairing by night’ to provide around-the-clock care for the eye area. The newly launched Little Purple Stick, together with the upgraded Little Purple Bottle Cream and Mask, and the existing Little Purple Bottle toner, lotion and essence, now forms a comprehensive ‘anti-fatigue aging’ product portfolio capable of delivering targeted solutions across different skincare scenarios.”

Innovating the “Culture, Tourism, Commerce, Sports and Exhibitions” Model to Create a New Cultural and Tourism Landmark

To further advance genuine industry-city integration, the project has introduced an exclusive benefit program for Fengxian residents. By presenting valid identification from Fengxian District, local residents can enjoy a 10% discount on all products at the Future Beauty City factory store. The initiative is designed to directly share the benefits of the industrial park’s development with local residents, stimulate regional consumption, and strengthen local recognition of and pride in Oriental Beauty Valley, creating a virtuous cycle of “touring in Beauty Valley, shopping in Beauty Valley and living in Beauty Valley.”

Looking ahead, the project will further integrate the core elements of industry, academia and research to build an open industrial innovation ecosystem. Interactive communication and experience areas have been incorporated into the site and will in the future serve the dual functions of a study-tour base and an industry talent classroom, expanding industrial tourism through new experiences that combine education with engagement and connect learning with industry. This approach reflects the integration of “technology-driven industrial development” and “science education for the public.”
