CHANDO Showcases Four Cutting-Edge Technologies at IFSCC, Marking Its 10th Consecutive Year at the World’s Leading Cosmetics Science Congress

Release time:

On September 15, the 35th Congress of the International Federation of Societies of Cosmetic Chemists (IFSCC) officially opened at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès in Cannes, France. Widely regarded as the “Nobel Prize of the cosmetics industry,” this prestigious global scientific event brought together leading researchers and industry leaders from around the world. As a leading technology-driven beauty company in China, CHANDO Group took part in this international platform for the 10th year, presenting four cutting-edge technological achievements that showcased the innovation capabilities and growing global influence of China’s cosmetics research.

The four technologies presented by CHANDO Group span its three major research systems — skin science, ingredient science and product science — reflecting not only the Group’s extensive foundation in fundamental research, but also its commitment to providing systematic technological solutions:

I. “Around-the-Clock Collagen Management” Solution

At the 35th IFSCC Congress, CHANDO Group presented its Class II medical device featuring recombinant humanized type III collagen. The medical liquid dressing is designed for the care of non-chronic superficial wounds and the surrounding skin and is supplied sterile. CHANDO’s recombinant humanized type III collagen dressing was also showcased at the event. Designed to cover the entire face, the dressing is intended for the care of non-chronic facial wounds following minimally invasive procedures.

CHANDO has also introduced a targeted skincare solution for healthy skin following aesthetic medical procedures — the CHANDO Platinum Collagen Series — formulated with advanced ingredients to address daily skin repair needs. By directly replenishing collagen through active ingredients and enhancing skin elasticity, the products are designed to precisely address the potential formation of “collagen voids”[1] resulting from accelerated collagen loss associated with multiple factors, including a weakened skin barrier, providing consumers with a systematic daily skincare solution.

CHANDO Group has established an integrated “Around-the-Clock Collagen Management”* ecosystem[2]. This not only expands its product portfolio, but also represents a strategic step for a Chinese beauty brand from conventional skincare toward a broader medical aesthetics ecosystem, demonstrating CHANDO’s scientific research capabilities in the fields of skin health and beauty.

II. Himalayan Probiotic Ingredient Technology for Photoaging Protection

Leveraging the unique microbial resources found in the extreme environments of the Himalayas, CHANDO Group has successfully developed a new “Himalayan Probiotic Photoaging Protection” ingredient technology, providing an innovative approach to green, safe and effective photoaging protection that received positive recognition from international attendees. The technology involves isolating and screening distinctive probiotic strains from harsh environments characterized by high altitudes, low temperatures and intense ultraviolet radiation, followed by the extraction of active components using advanced fermentation processes, significantly enhancing the photoaging-protection performance of the proprietary ingredient. For five consecutive years, CHANDO has brought Himalayan microbial resources to the global stage, demonstrating its international influence in the R&D of sustainable beauty ingredients.

III. Rare Polar Plant Cell Culture Technology

Through plant cell and tissue culture technology, CHANDO Group has successfully cultivated and developed cell aggregates of the rare Himalayan plant Saussurea laniceps. The research identified and characterized syringin as one of its principal characteristic constituents and found that it demonstrated strong photoaging-protection activity and potential anti-wrinkle benefits. This technology not only provides an alternative to the unsustainable wild harvesting of rare plant resources, but also opens up a new pathway for the development of green and sustainable biotechnology for beauty applications.

Plant cell and tissue culture technology refers to the use of biotechnology to rapidly cultivate plant cells and tissues at scale in laboratories and “plant cell factories,” enriching their active components to obtain plant tissue culture-derived ingredients with effective skincare benefits for application across various product developments. CHANDO has developed extensive R&D and application expertise in this field.

CHANDO’s Pink Diamond Space Rose Cream, a signature product launched in 2022, incorporates this advanced ingredient technology. Its key ingredient, “Space Rose Extract,” originates from a rare rose seed resource bank in the Pan-Himalayan region at an altitude of 3,300 meters. From more than 30,000 varieties, the research team identified a rare native Chinese rose species from Shangri-La and conducted multiple rounds of selection from more than 3,000 seeds. By leveraging the microgravity environment of space to select highly active rose seeds, followed by 60 generations of plant tissue culture optimization to enrich active components, the technology helps promote collagen production and improve skin elasticity. In a 3D skin model study, it was shown to increase type I collagen by 72.9% and skin elasticity by 65.8%.

IV. Hair and Scalp Care Formulation Technology

In addition, drawing on years of expertise in scalp and hair care formulation technology, CHANDO Group presented for the first time its latest innovations in scalp-friendly hair cleansing and conditioning formulations, emerging as one of the highlights in the personal care formulation technology category at this year’s IFSCC Congress. Through two systematic studies on scalp and hair care formulation technology presented at the Congress, CHANDO revealed the intricate relationships among molecular assembly, microstructure and performance in hair care formulations, particularly conditioners. The findings provide an important reference for advancing hair care technologies better suited to maintaining scalp health.

Fatty alcohols are commonly used ingredients in hair conditioners. When added at appropriate levels, they can enhance smoothness and formulation stability; however, excessive use may clog hair follicles and compromise the scalp barrier, potentially leading to oiliness, sensitivity and even inflammation. Through two papers presented at IFSCC, CHANDO’s research team systematically explored approaches to reducing conventional conditioners’ reliance on high concentrations of fatty alcohols. One study developed a pH-responsive pseudo-gemini surfactant system that achieved a 4.5-fold increase in viscosity and a 67.51% improvement in wet-combing performance using only 5% fatty alcohol, while also delivering excellent antistatic properties and spreadability. The other study optimized a behentrimonium chloride/fatty alcohol/water ternary system to form a stable, ordered lamellar structure, significantly improving combing performance as well as stability during storage and transportation.

These studies were developed around consumers’ real-world needs, expanding the boundaries of hair care formulation technology while translating scientific innovation into tangible consumer benefits — including smoother application, longer-lasting performance and more intelligent hair care. More importantly, the research establishes a technical foundation for overcoming key formulation challenges in the development and validation of more scalp-friendly hair cleansing and conditioning systems.

These advanced technologies have already been successfully applied to CHANDO Volumizing Nourishing Conditioner and CHANDO Scalp Care Sensitive Scalp Purifying Essence Lotion. By developing an in-depth understanding of formulation composition and processing characteristics at the molecular and microstructural levels, CHANDO has enabled both products to deliver strong real-world performance. Their volumizing effect, smoothness, antistatic performance and scalp-friendliness have received positive consumer feedback, delivering visible and tangible improvements in hair quality while supporting long-term scalp health.
