Release time:2023.11.13

On November 9, the "Oriental Beauty Valley, Beautiful World" 2023 Oriental Beauty Valley International Cosmetics Conference was held in Fengxian, Shanghai. Mr. Zheng Chunying, Chairman and President of JALA Group, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a keynote speech titled Green Cosmetics, Sustainable Future.

Mr. Zheng Chunying, Chairman of JALA Group, Delivers Keynote Address

The survival of human society and our blue planet hinges on building a more sustainable world. In 2015, the United Nations established 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) addressing economic, social, and environmental challenges. In September 2020, China officially proposed its national "Dual Carbon" strategy. In July 2022, Shanghai released its carbon peaking implementation plan. Both the SDGs and the "Dual Carbon" strategy align with the core principles of sustainability.

As a leading digital-driven technology beauty enterprise in China, JALA Group interprets sustainable development through the lens of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) integration. While expanding its business, the Group remains steadfast in advancing philanthropic causes that benefit humanity, preserving traditional culture, promoting education, protecting the environment, and ensuring sustainable growth.

JALA Group has consistently strived to merge cutting-edge technology with Oriental aesthetics, developing high-quality products for consumers, disseminating the value of Oriental beauty globally, creating green cosmetics, and fostering harmony among humans, nature, and society. Zheng Chunying emphasized, "JALA's framework for green cosmetics is rooted in the ESG concept proposed by the United Nations Global Compact in 2004, driving sustainability through environmental, social, and governance dimensions."

Upholding Long-Termism: JALA Creates Ecological Value

Environmental protection is inextricably linked to JALA Group’s development and is prioritized through four pillars: green packaging, green ingredients, green production, and ecological conservation. The Group employs advanced manufacturing processes and energy-saving technologies to uphold eco-friendly principles. For instance, its Himalayan-inspired brand CHANDO’s best-selling product, CHANDO SNOWY REGION LOTION, has sold 80 million bottles over 12 years. Its packaging utilizes single-step injection molding and replaces traditional paint spraying with innovative technology, reducing CO2 emissions by 90%.

Every stage of cosmetic packaging—raw material sourcing, production, and disposal—significantly impacts the environment. By adopting Post-Consumer Recycled (PCR) boxes for internal logistics and transportation, JALA has drastically reduced carton usage. Over five years, this initiative is equivalent to saving 60,000 trees from being cut down.

The Group prioritizes R&D with three renewable biotechnologies: plant stem cell tissue culture, microbial fermentation, and living flower fragrance extraction—ensuring product excellence while maintaining sustainability.

JALA’s R&D Center houses experts in "plant cell culture development and production", dubbed "Cell Farmers." Since 2014, they have cultivated plant stem cells. In 2019, JALA established the Himalayan Raw Material Factory in Nyingchi, featuring a "Cell Farm" workshop. Scientists extract plant stem cells as "seeds," then cultivate, harvest, and refine them into potent ingredients for skincare and haircare. Notably, JALA has developed two rare plant-based cell ingredients: wild Himalayan micro-roseand Himalayan snow lotus, with the latter in critical development stages.

Since 2013, JALA Group’s R&D team has repeatedly ventured deep into the Himalayas, isolating 558 microbial strains from local vegetation, hot springs, and traditional foods, thereby establishing a unique Himalayan microbial strain library. In 2022, JALA independently developed the groundbreaking Chinese ingredient—HiMurchaSin (Extreme Yeast)—which possesses independent intellectual property rights and achieved commercialization. This breakthrough resolved the long-standing bottleneck in cosmetic raw material innovation, setting new benchmarks in technology, formulation, and efficacy.

In October of this year, a whitepaper titled Fermentation Technology in the Skincare Industry: Applications and Prospects—co-authored by top domestic dermatology and microbial fermentation experts—was published. The whitepaper validated the efficacy mechanism of HiMurchaSin in root-level anti-aging, further cementing its scientific credibility and industry leadership.

CHANDO TIME FROZEN ESSENCE Fifth Generation

HiMurchaSin, the Extreme Yeast, is utilized in CHANDO products such as the HIMALAYAN ESSENCE, the fifth generation of TIME FROZEN ESSENCE, and the CHANDO Scalp Essence. Launched in 2023, the CHANDO HIMALAYAN ESSENCE features a minimalist formula with HiMurchaSin content reaching 93%. This innovative formulation effectively activates renewal factors, delivering overnight revitalization and full-face rejuvenation within 28 days, empowering skin to confidently defy the passage of time.

From R&D and packaging innovation to production and supply chain management, JALA has built a comprehensive corporate sustainability ecosystem. Its low-carbon production techniques reduce annual water consumption by 23,000 tons, wastewater discharge by 2,300 tons, and tree felling by 22,000 trees through PCR box adoption.

Natural Beauty and Responsibility: Protecting the Himalayas

In 2016, CHANDO collaborated with the China Environmental Protection Foundation to establish the "CHANDO Himalaya Environmental Protection Public Welfare Fund", which is dedicated to the protection of Himalayan glaciers, rare plants and animals, and unique cultures. Through various means, it showcases the rich colors and vibrant vitality of the Himalayas to the world. To date, CHANDO has donated RMB 24 million to the foundation.

CHANDO’s Green Barley Grass Project in Shigatse, Himalayas

Since 2017, CHANDO has launched the annual "Greening the Himalayas" initiative, combating sandy desertification and controlling land degradation in the Himalayan region through manual grass planting.

As of 2023, CHANDO's "Greening the Himalayas" public welfare project has planted green barley grass across 5.66 million square meters in the Shigatse region of the Himalayas over seven consecutive years. This effort safeguards the local ecological environment, promotes green development, and supports rural revitalization.

Actively Fulfilling Social Responsibilities to Build a Beautiful China

In terms of social responsibility, JALA Group has implemented proactive measures across three dimensions: sustainable human development, cultural sustainability, and economic sustainability. At the International Cosmetics Conference of Oriental Beauty Valley, Mr. Zheng Chunying, Chairman of JALA Group, shared three latest case studies of the Group.

In May 2023, CHANDO, in collaboration with the China Children and Teenagers' Foundation, launched the "CHANDO Spring Bud Education Assistance Program". The initiative provides scholarships to 251 outstanding female students from the Himalayan region, supporting their academic pursuits and empowering them to become kind-hearted, independent, confident, and responsible women. This effort contributes to rural talent revitalization, allowing dreams to blossom across the Himalayas.

In October 2023, CHANDO officially announced a city IP co-branding partnership with Dali. Mr. Zheng Chunying, Chairman of JALA Group, signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Dali Prefecture Government during the ceremony. Simultaneously, the limited edition CHANDO HIMALAYAN ESSENCE "Romance of Dali" product line made its debut.

Rooted in the Himalayas - known as the "Roof of the World" - CHANDO finds cultural synergy with Dali, located at the southernmost tip of the Himalayan range where Cangshan Mountain meets Erhai Lake. This co-branding initiative seamlessly integrates cutting-edge beauty technology with Eastern cultural heritage, effectively boosting Dali's tourism and consumer market development.

JALA Group established a subsidiary in Nyingchi City—the origin of its raw materials—providing increased employment opportunities for local Tibetan communities.

The CHANDO Himalaya Research Center in Nyingchi officially commenced operations in 2021, marking it as the first research facility established by a cosmetics company in the Himalayan region. This center comprehensively showcases over a decade of CHANDO's achievements in ingredient innovation, fragrance development, and color research derived from Himalayan natural resources, alongside future-oriented product R&D strategies.

Strengthening Corporate Governance and Driving Digital Transformation

In terms of corporate governance, JALA Group has formulated a long-term ESG development plan and established an ESG organizational structure to ensure sustainable development.

For JALA Group, corporate governance serves as the cornerstone of ESG strategy, while digital transformation represents a crucial approach to governance innovation. In July 2020, JALA officially launched its digital transformation initiative, pioneering the industry-first "One-Stock" model. The process evolved through three phases: business digitization, digital operations, and intelligent marketing. To date, the company has achieved full-link digital integration across R&D, production, marketing, logistics, and management, with digital-driven revenue accounting for 98.8% of total revenue.

JALA Group has been honored with the “2021 Shanghai Excellence Award for Digital Transformation Cases” and the title of “2023 Shanghai First-Batch Digital Transformation Benchmark Enterprise in Cosmetic Manufacturing”, and was selected as a representative of the fashion consumer goods sector to be shortlisted for the “2023 Second Batch of ‘Gongfu Chain Leader’ Cultivation Enterprises” initiative.

Additionally, JALA continuously enhances its capabilities in intellectual property (IP) creation, protection, and management, earning the title of "National Intellectual Property Competitive Enterprise." As of October 2023, the group has filed 431 patents, with 84 invention patents granted and 236 invention patent applications pending.

Today, ESG principles have been integrated into corporate strategies and decision-making processes, becoming pivotal to high-quality sustainable development. JALA Group’s sustainability practices provide a blueprint for China’s beauty industry in green cosmetics development. As Chairman Zheng Chunying stated, "JALA remains committed to building world-class Chinese brands and fostering harmony among humanity, nature, and society. We will continue to pursue excellence and sustainable brand value, striving tirelessly to create a Beautiful China and a Beautiful World."
